"Slowly he took out the clothes in which ten years before, Cosette had left Montfermeil...he was remembering...he arranged the little things on the bed, the scarf next to the skirt, the stockings beside the shoes, the bodice beside the dress, and he looked at them one after another...She was no taller than that...she laughed, they walked along holding hands, she had nobody but him in the world.
Then his venerable white head fell on the bed, this old stoical heart broke, his face was swallowed up, so to speak, in Cosette's clothes, and anybody who had passed along the staircase at that moment would have heard irrepressible sobbing." (Um yes, irrepressible sobbing...beginning on page 1384 and lasting until the end of the book...)

OK, I want to read that. I think I can. I think I can.
Happy Mothers Day to one of my favorite Mothers!!
I've never read the book, but I've enjoyed the play over and over.
Happy Mothers Day.
Ok Mindy ... you've put yourself through this again?!? BTW ... Happy Mother's Day!
Does your husband look at you funny when you're reading a book that makes you cry, like mine does? Must be a great book!
I hope you had a nice Mother's Day!
i'm with PJ. this has been on my to-read list for years. i think it's time to move it to "currently reading". as soon as i finish the two other books that i'm currently reading!

I LOVED that book when I read it! My eyes got a little bit misty just reading the tiny passage you posted.
If I was still awake by page 1384, I'd be crying, too.
I've never read Les Mis, but it's a favorite of my sister...so I should! :)
I still haven't read that...I don't know if during the first trimester is the best time though. Heh.
I saw the movie "P S I love you" the other day- SOOO sad!! I almost cried a dozen times.
