More Food Storage Stuff...

Here is a VERY cool website for tracking your food storage. You input your inventory and then can print out three forms: A goal sheet, an inventory sheet and a needs list. The needs list is cool. After you've input all your inventory it calculates your target percentage. So for instance I need 3,023# of grains. I have 1,048# I am at 34.67% of what I need. Sobering number, but motivating to see. The grains are broken up into various items. For wheat I need 1,358#. I have 748#, which puts me at 55.10% of my target. Hopefully after I have gone to the cannery several times next week I will be at 100% of my wheat!

I've only input what I have for long term storage. I plan on going through my pantry and inputting items like pasta, canned fruits and vegetables, spaghetti sauce, dried potatoes, etc. After it is all input I will get a real clear picture and might be surprised at how much I really have.

Go get your wheat!!!!

*Update. My husband was able to get 30 bags of wheat from the cannery today...Whoohoo! I have all my wheat now!

Our cannery is completely out of wheat. I've been much more careful with our finances, and now that the time has come where I can build up our food storage some more there's no wheat.

I'm hoping my mother found a source by her, she's checking it out for both of us.

Thanks for the cool link! I like white wheat too.

I haven't inventoried for quite a while...I need to get busy! Too bad we're spending all our time and extra money on a wedding! :0

I'm excited that we finally have room for food storage! It's funny, I bought a bunch of stuff last summer, but didn't organize it well. I realized a month ago that I was buying stuff at the store that I already had on hand, but didn't know it! LOL! So now it's organized and I just need to figure out what we're missing.

I should go get some wheat at that price. I don't have a grinder, but I could borrow my mom's! :)

Yay for getting all of your wheat! I hate to admit it, but food storage is a weakness of mine...not a good weakness to have! Fortunately I have a husband who is more on the ball and went to Sam's club last week to build up our food storage, including 2 50lb bags of rice. We are definitely going through a food crises and I wish we were better prepared.

Remember though there is more to food storage than just wheat. On Provident living.org it states a "Per person monthy amount 25 lb. Wheat, white rice, corn, and other grains" Wheat is for some easy to get and as you learn about it you will see all the values it has But if you do not use it and keep it well sealed it may not be the best thing for you. to spend your money on at this time. If your body has never used whole wheat then you may run into a lot of problems. Do you have the other grains per person too? such as rice corn barley What do you cook with. If you look at what you cook with and start with that and then Learn to use other longer term stuff then you will slowly learn to use the stuff you have and it will be a more natural process. I love the quote you stated by Pres Hinckley "if you have a reserve, even though it be small, then should storms howl about your head, you will have shelter for your wives and children and peace in your hearts." The most important thing is to move forward with faith start with 72 hour kit then on on to 1 month then add 2 and then 3 and so forth I have a couple of recipes on my blog that came from just my food storage. My next challenge "Italian" night. Ok this turned out longer than it should have. Any I love your thoughts very timely better go check on our stuff.

I think if there is anyone who hasn't started, start now. It can be overwhelming if you have nothing, but just buy what you can. No one should go into debt for food storage.

Thanks for the link--I will check it out. I'm horrible at inventorying and even worse at rotating.

Hey Mindylouwho, just wanted to say "THANKS" for your posts and the info. It opened a lot of conversation between Sam and I on where we are on food storage and where we need to be.
